The site of fluid secretion in salivary glands. These cells are responsible for making and secreting more than 85 percent of the proteins that mediate the functions of saliva. Ductal cells cannot secrete fluid. In Sj?gren's the acinar cells are dysfunctional; hence patients can't secrete salivary fluid.
