Hereditary Non-polyposis Colon Cancer Defined

(HNPCC), also known as Lynch syndrome. HNPCC is a more common form of inherited colon cancer, accounting for about 5 to 10 percent of all colorectal cancer cases; HNPCC develops at a younger age than non-inherited colon cancer, although not as young as in patients with familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP); people with HNPCC often develop cancer while in their 40s and 50s. Women with this disease may be at risk for endometrial or ovarian cancer.
